A friend for life! The Norfolk terrier is a sociable family dog. Particularly suitable for people who like a lively, clever, wilful, intelligent and friendly dog. Lively sure, but without being excessive. Norfolk terriers are small but they “think” big. It’s a small energetic dog, always alert, and always looking for adventure. They are fond of digging and enjoy the water. They are courageous and overconfident but never malicious. They are very fond of children and always in for a game. They are always very inquisitive; these rascals don’t miss a thing! They are clever little animals that need a strict upbringing. Remember: behind that funny little face hides a real terrier that can be rather disobedient at times! They, who start obedience training in time, will discover that the Norfolk takes a lot of pleasure of working with their owners. They differentiate from other breeds by being very tolerant towards other dogs and animals in the house. They rarely fight amongst each other and are basically always cheerful and pleasant. It is therefore not surprising that more and more people feel attracted to Norfolk Terriers. Keeping a Norfolk terrier. Norfolks are very fond of walks and other outings like this walk on the beach at an activity day of the Association.
Their lively character and endurance, inherited from their predecessors, have been well preserved.
They who live in an urban society are well advised to fence off their garden and keep them on a lead when out. They are real terriers and whenever there is something of interest, you should not be surprised if they go for it.
Coat, care and nourishment. Their coat is hard and wiry, and comes in all colours of red, wheaten, black and tan. Compared to other breeds they have an easy to care for coat. They really don’t need anything else but a regular brushing and when you do this, they won’t moult. They need to be hand plucked two or three times a year. A professional groom could be done for you but with a bit of patience and perseverance you can learn to do this yourself. The Norfolk Terrier Club organizes a grooming day every year. Feeding this dog should never be a problem. Meat with bread and vegetables or readymade dog food: the Norfolk terrier likes it all. You should however be cautious not to overfeed. They could eat at any time of the day but they are prone to be obese. Physical.
